Editorial Policy & Fact-check Policy
Editorial Policy
TSP NEWS is committed to independent, accurate and fair journalism. We follow the Norms of Journalistic Conduct of the Press Council of India and the Programme Code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, as required by the Code of Ethics in the IT Rules, 2021.
Our principles
- Accuracy: we publish only what we have reason to believe is true.
- Independence: news decisions are made by the editorial team, not by advertisers, owners or political parties.
- Fairness: where a person or organisation is accused of wrongdoing, we try to seek their response.
- Public interest: we report what the public needs to know, and respect privacy unless the public interest requires otherwise.
- No paid news: news is never sold. Paid content is always labelled (see Advertising Disclosure).
Sensitive reporting
We do not reveal the identity of victims of sexual offences or of minors involved in legal matters, avoid sensationalising suicide, and do not publish content that promotes hatred between communities or violates any law.
Reporters and sources
Reporters must disclose conflicts of interest, must not accept gifts or payment for coverage and must file facts they have personally verified. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is important and cannot be obtained otherwise, and the editor knows the source.
Use of technology
Where software or AI tools are used to assist with drafting or translation, every story is checked and approved by an editor before publication. Responsibility for published content rests with the editorial team.
Fact-check Policy
- Check the source: confirm who originated the claim, and prefer primary sources such as official documents, press releases, court orders and direct statements.
- Cross-verify: important claims are confirmed with at least two independent sources.
- Verify media: photos and videos are checked for date, place and manipulation, for example with reverse image search.
- Seek a response: we contact the people or bodies concerned before publishing allegations.
- Say what is unverified: if a claim cannot be confirmed, we say so clearly instead of presenting it as fact.
- Editor sign-off: breaking news may be published quickly but is updated as facts are confirmed, and the update time is shown.
